A robust Strategic Planning Process—not a weekend retreat!

Failure to Plan—you are at the mercy of the market and those competitors who not only do plan, but then spend the majority of their waking hours executing their plans.  Unfortunately, the credit union industry has historically been wanting in sophisticated planning processes that other industries have consistently utilized.

Strategic Planning is not a weekend seminar! It is work. It takes time. It involves everyone in your organization.  It is a specific methodology that investigates, measures and offers a roadmap for the Credit Union for the year or several years into the future.  Weekend retreats can be valuable to update and monitor planning and TalenTTracker can be a valuable facilitation assistant who engages your team and Board.  But it just isn’t Strategic Planning!

TalenTTracker’s Strategic Planning process begins by understanding your current situation and existing plan (if applicable). For instance, when was the last time you reviewed your Mission and Vision?

Don’t think this is necessary? You may be right if your Mission Statement is 15 words or less and everyone in the organization can recite it!  Additionally, compare the Board and Senior Management’s major decisions in Sales/Marketing, Service, Membership Service etc. to your mission statement.  If you aren’t on the same page, maybe you need some assistance!

Is your Strategic Plan coordinated with your budget and marketing plans?  Is the input gathered from membership surveys, competition and economic research, discussed and debated to give you 3-5 Major Goals for the upcoming year(s)? If the answer is no, maybe you need some assistance!

Finally, once the plan is completed, can it be succinctly formalized with metrics and goals in less than 3-5 written pages?  If you can’t answer yes, maybe you need some assistance!
