THE ORGANIZATION

Located in St. Paul, the Minnesota Credit Union Network is a statewide organization that serves and supports the needs and interests of credit unions throughout Minnesota. The Network, working in conjunction with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), provides exceptional products and services, ensuring that Minnesota credit unions have access to the best financial options for their members.

MnCUN works on behalf of Minnesota’s 152 credit unions and more than 1.5 million credit union members. Activities include:

  • Political advocacy, including lobbying
  • assisting in credit union development
  • providing regulatory compliance support
  • coordinating educational opportunities for credit union staff and volunteers
  • maintaining media relationships
  • matching credit unions with product and service providers
  • administering the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation
  • participating in charitable fundraising
  • supporting international credit union development

THE POSITION

The Vice President-Association Services is responsible for all dues supported services provided by the Minnesota Credit Union Network. The Position provides direct supervision over public relations and communications activities, education, compliance, accounting and information technology.

Additional Vice President responsibilities include leading, guiding, and coaching the staff of 8, including Technology Director, Controller, Communication Director, General Counsel and Education Director.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance the image of the Minnesota Credit Union Network and its member credit unions to state-wide media, trade press, legislators, regulators and membership.
  • Primarily responsible for the planning and execution of all major Network meetings such as the Annual Meeting and Fall Conferences including responsibility for event contracts, supervision of events, meetings, and various Network activities and the education and training budgets.
  • Serve as the Network’s liaison to the Minnesota Credit Union Foundation in providing support and administrative services. Ensure proper Network participation and coordination with Foundation committees, including Credit Union for Kids and Family Involvement Council.
  • Ensure that the following Network Board committees receive proper staff support to accomplish their missions: Audit, Awards, CENCOPAN, MNAP, and Regulatory Review.
  • Coordinate activities of the various chapters of the Network and provide support services as necessary.
  • Write and disseminate messages to all Minnesota credit unions on behalf of the MnCUN President & CEO, upper management and other staff members.
  • Plan and write speeches, participate in the planning of Network meetings and strategies, and attend network events, chapter meetings and political fundraisers.
  • Regularly interact with the MnCUN Board of Directors for meetings, reporting and strategic planning.
  • Represent MnCUN at credit union marketing and business development functions. May serve on a number of statewide external boards broadly representing credit unions or the network.


QUALIFICATIONS

The fully qualified candidate will possess five-ten years of successful leadership/senior management, with a solid understanding of the credit union movement. A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or the equivalent combination of skills and experience is required.

The individual selected should possess excellent writing skills, organizational skills, supervisory skills, multitasking skills and the ability to work independently. The individual is actively involved in the strategic planning of the organization.

The incumbent must possess solid interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) to a diverse audience including staff, directors, and clients. The candidate must be detail oriented, have computer software experience of Microsoft Office and graphic design. Strong knowledge in layout and AP Style, and ability to edit others work is essential.
